I just finished reading Still Life with a Woodpecker by Tom Robbins. I believe that it was his first novel (?) and I wish I had read it before the others as it sets up many of the devices (piss your self laughing amazing metaphors) and themes (inanimate objects). His books are also hella sexy. There's an academic conclusion for you.
