In cases of intense pain sometimes an emotional paralysis sets in. The soul begins to disintegrate. This explains the deadly frost, the free style of thinking, the incessant blaring wit of this sort of despair. No affinity remains; the human being stands alone as a perishable force. Set loose from the balance of the world he slowly begins to consume himself, and he is in principle a misanthrope and a misotheos [enemy of god].
–Friedrich Freiherr von Hardenberg (Novalis)

Erin-- if you haven't yet, you should read Penelope Fitzgerald's lovely little book about Hardenberg and his milieu- 'The Blue Flower'. You seem in an odd place. If it's any consolation, in your 30s, you will feel younger.. for all that's worth! --C.
Well, I'm not in my 30s yet but I guess I should prepare. Thanks for the recommendation. I am in an odd place but I am just about to move.
Bitty or big I hope your move went well. Oddness, generally speaking, even offness (I think) preferable to whatever antonym-- but, if you aim well, especially.
I too am moving (to a new residence) come 12/1.. -C.
